    Medici Villas Unesco Heritage Tour

    Far from the madding crowds: The Medici Villas of the Unesco Heritage: Visit Villa di Castello garden, Villa La Petraia, Villa di Artimino, Villa di Poggio a Caiano, etc. All of these villas were summer retreats of the Medici families where they spent most vacations in the summer. Enjoy the history of the gardens and stop over at a local winery for wine tasting. You are close to Florence but at the same time in the middle of the countryside.

    Carrara Marble quarries

    The marble excavated in the valleys of Carrara, where the highest number of working quarries is concentrated, are famous because of their color white. There are over a dozen different kinds of color white marbles and here you have the opportunity to visit them together with a local guide and discover some real interesting off the beaten path towns such as Carrara. You will also have the chance to stop by in Colonnata to taste its famous white prosciutto…this is a truly a unique experience which we would love to tailor for you.

    Gardens of Tuscany

    La Foce is a Villa situated in an incredible location, looking out to the crete of the Val d’Orcia and the Mount Amiata. From the garden, that can be visited on few occasions, you will see in the horizon the rock of Castiglione d’Orcia. You will be enchanted by the story of the villa, its owners still living on the premises, and the magnificent Italian garden designed by the Architect Pinsent in the 1930s.

    Siena

    Siena is in the heart of Tuscany and it is famous for its towers, red colored brick buildings and Piazza del Campo where in the summer it is the stage of the famous horse race called Palio. What makes a visit to this town a unique experience is that it has retained its medieval flair with important works of art yet it is still a busy and rich town with its stores, artisans and markets. The walking tour will take you to discover its charm through its gothic art, medieval buildings, markets, narrow streets. 

    San Gimignano

    In the Middle Ages, the small town was a fortress with over 72 towers that belonged to the local aristocracy. There are 13 towers left nowadays that give a unique skyline when you approach it. During the Renaissance, the town patronized many artists and painters that testimony the wealth and power of this small city.  
    Very popular and crowded during the day, on the other hand it is really very charming. It is worth your while to stop at the Cisterna Square and try also the famous Dondoli’s icecream!

    Volterra and its Alabaster Artisans

    Volterra has an Etruscan origin (II century BC), as it was the refuge of the Etruscan civilization then outnumbered by the Romans. There are incredible sweeping views from its high top location up to the seaside on clear days. It is famous for its local white alabaster and Roman ruins among the most important in central Italy. Make sure you visit the artisans and stop for local cheese at Fattoria Lischeto.
    If interested in the Etruscans there is a great museum that contains the most extensive collection of Etruscan art in Italy.

    Colle Val d’Elsa and its Glass blowing artisans

    This was a fortified city which became wealthy during medieval times. It became a “city” thanks to its strategic location on the via Francigena, the only road that connected Italy to France. From Porta Nova, you will be able to admire numerous renaissance buildings along the maze of streets up to the castle with well-preserved bastions and scalloped walls. This town is famous for its glass production. 

    San Galgano

    This is a Cistercian abbey built in 1218 by monks. It became very important as it was  on the via Francigena Road that connected France to Rome where commerce was very important.
    It is now left as a ruin with no roof, it is magically nestled in the heart of the Tuscan countryside. You can also visit the nearby Hermit of Montesiepi where there is a mysterious sword magically inside a rock…
